join our team of volunteers!
Paseo Pottery is a pottery-powered charity donating 100% of net proceeds from pottery experiences to local non-profit organizations. We are run by a team of amazing volunteers, and we’ve donated over $48,000 to local charities thus far. We’re currently looking for experienced ceramic artists to help teach classes. Volunteers get to use the studio as a time trade. Our space includes a sales gallery and a fully-equipped ceramic workshop complete with wheels, worktables, wear racks, kilns, pug machine, glazes, and spray booth. Come join our team, and put your passion for clay to work for the community! Sign up for the next new volunteer training here.
There are lots of ways to get involved at Paseo Pottery:
Classes: the option with the lowest time commitment is to sign up for one of our long-term classes. Classes meet one time each week for 7-weeks and are designed to teach students of all skill levels how to throw various shapes on the wheel. Students will walk their pieces through the entire process of throwing, trimming, and glazing, and their pieces will be fired by our staff. Cost includes 25-pounds of clay, all materials, and glazes. Students have access to sign up for open studio calendar at $5/hour. Firing fees separate.
Volunteer: Volunteers are asked to sign up for at least one shift each week (4 hours). Volunteers need not have pottery experience as they can help by taking shifts opening the studio, pugging clay, cleaning, mixing glazes, helping load/unload the kiln, glaze, etc. Volunteering is a time trade. In exchange for hours worked each week, volunteers may work on their own projects for an equal number of hours. Volunteers have 24-hour access to the studio, receive a 20% discount off classes, and free firing up to 1 ft3 per month.
Teacher: A teacher is a volunteer who teaches weekly pottery experiences or classes in the studio. The weekly class can take place whenever fits into the teacher’s schedule. Mornings, afternoons, and evening classes are possible, and any day of the week. Volunteering is a time trade. In exchange for hours worked each week, volunteers may work on their own projects for an equal number of hours. Teachers have 24-hour access to the studio, receive a 20% discount off long-term classes, and free firing up to 1.5 ft3 per month.
Internship: An intern is a volunteer who makes a larger time commitment of 8 hours/week. The internship position is flexible with respect to timing. Interns help in all aspects of running the studio/gallery, from recycling clay, cleaning, mixing glazes, loading and unloading kilns, and teaching classes in the studio to sales and shipping in the gallery. Volunteering is a time trade. In exchange for hours worked each week, volunteers may work on their own projects for an equal number of hours.
